IEHC 2006
XIV International Economic History Congress
Helsinki, Finland, 21 to 25 August 2006
The International Economic History Association (IEHA) will hold its XIV International Economic History Congress in Helsinki, Finland, 21 to 25 August 2006. The local organizing institutions are the Department of Social Science History and the Department of History at the University of Helsinki, in collaboration with the Finnish Economic History Association.
Following the first and second call for proposals, the Executive Committee of the IEHA has approved 126 sessions to be included in the academic programme of the Helsinki 2006 Congress. There will be sessions on themes related to economic and social history such as:
- Macroeconomic history
- Business history
- Labour history
- Monetary history
- Industrialization
- Trade and maritime history
- Colonial history
- Environmental history
- Demographic and family history
- Gender studies
- Material culture
- Urban history
- Methodological issues
The sessions will cover periods from antiquity to the present day and a variety of regions around the whole world.
The host city and the congress site
Helsinki, the capital of Finland, has gained a reputation as an attractive host city for various international meetings. It is famous for its architecture and its central area beautifully situated on a peninsula surrounded by the sea. The city-centre campus of the University of Helsinki is the congress site and the main shopping areas, restaurants and sights are near by.
